Is that what you really want?

An examination of our life’s choices

We can all agree that life is about choices and decisions.

Progression in life requires a certain level of mastery in anything you do.

It doesn’t mean you have to be world class, it just means that you have to be willing to specialize( invest time into endeavor).

In saying this, it’s often seen that the things that people specialize in, isn’t something they truly value.

How often do you hear a person say, “it’s just a job” or “I kinda fell into this career”.

These quotes are all too common and require further analysis.

Why is it that we end up spending so much time doing something we don’t care about?

Also, what can be done to prevent that from happening?

Let’s dive deep into these questions, one at a time.

So, I believe that people end up doing what they don’t love out of comfort and out of fear.

Over time, we find a situation to be bearable or tolerable such that the known is preferred to the unknown.

Meaning, we are willing to accept a mediocre state because we know that it is providing value.

Fear plays a huge rule because often we are afraid that our authenticity may not be enough.

The inadequate feeling that others may not approve or perhaps that you may not be able to provide value.

This feeling is pervasive in a society of people that yearn for uniformity.

So what should we do?

Identify what you are working towards and play it out all the way to the end.

So, if you want to be a lawyer… imagine exactly that.

Imagine the nights staying up, the cases you are working on and even the lives you are helping.

See it all- this vision will be a guide to your decision making process in the present.

If all those actions while in your end goal are not what you desire, you know that it probably isn’t well served to press forward in the present.

It’s not perfect but I see value in our imagination.

Go out there and make your dreams your present reality.
