Society: The trap that gifts mediocrity

photo of a turtle swimming underwater

A poem of a broken society.

My story is much the same – benefits of a homogenous society.

Sitting in class listening to the teacher speak.

Rote memorization is all we should seek.

I got an A+ on my test so I must be a success.

No time to actively assess the stress – that I feel weak.

My story is much the same – benefits of a homogenous society.

I wake up at 6am and get ready for the day.

9am to 5pm is what I should consider play.

My job is my security, realizing dreams aren’t meant to be.

I am too old for those visions created in my youth.

The truth is now so painful, like a cavity in my tooth.

Living paycheck to paycheck to make my ends meet.

So I can one day retire and get off my feet.

My story is much the same – benefits of a homogenous society.

Weekend is here, it is time to party and relax.

Release the mind of any work, issue or task.

Let me have a beer and cheer my favorite team.

The prospects of my team winning, means all the world to me.

I am glad to give up 3 hours of my day for absolutely free.

Nothing gained in the process, but a hit of dopamine,

I glean that I seem to have lost my will, to invest in making my day my best.

My story is much the same – benefits of a homogenous society.

My family surrounds me as I count my final breaths.

The sadness in my chest as I recount all my regrets.

I should have written that book or travelled to that place.

At least taken a chance to fail, to fall flat on my face.

The tears have now dried as my heart no longer speaks.

My dreams and aspirations- nonexistent now for weeks.

My death would be less painful, if I made my life more aimful.

Let this be a lesson to the future folk.

Cherish dreams and carry hope, that your tiny dreams yield a massive scope.

It’s not enough to simply exist, make your life a precious gift.
